This site publishes field notes on Spanish, Portuguese, and the everyday conversations that textbooks skip: the clinic, the landlord, the bank window, the school office. The voice is first-person because the mistakes are first-person too.

PTF Languages

PTF Languages is our iOS app. It is a companion to two learning products built for the same travelers and professionals who read this journal:

• Expat Ally — Spanish for work, healthcare, law, and daily life abroad.
• Brazilian Flow — Portuguese for the same kind of real-world tracks, from A1 to C2.

Inside the app you can sign in and study those courses. You cannot create a new account in PTF Languages, and you cannot create one through the Apple App Store. Accounts are created on the Expat Ally or Brazilian Flow websites. The app only opens an account you already have.

Who writes here

James writes most of what you will find on Passport To Fluency: long-form guides drawn from years living between the Dominican Republic and Colombia, with notes that travel as far as Brazil when Portuguese enters the picture. The point is not perfect grammar. It is being understood when it matters.
